What It's Really Like to Open an O-Studio

From the first Discovery Call through to signing the Franchise Agreement, this blog outlines each step of the Ownership Pathway and the support available to give you a clear picture of what to expect when owning an O-Studio.

August 17, 2026

Every O-Studio starts the same way, with someone deciding that recovery and wellbeing deserve the same attention we already give to fitness.

That was true for Tim Bateman, O-Studio's founder and CEO. Tim spent 17 years playing professional rugby at the highest level, and along the way he learned that performance was never just physical. When his wife, Laura, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, his own fitness barely changed from week to week, yet everything about how he showed up on the field did. It was the moment he realised recovery, mindset and wellbeing shape performance every bit as much as training does. More than a decade later, that realisation is the reason O-Studio exists: a space built around sauna, ice, float therapy, red light therapy and recovery tools, designed to make recovery and wellbeing as understood and as practised as physical fitness.

It's also the reason people are drawn to open one. For anyone considering O-Studio ownership, the appeal usually starts with that same idea, wanting to bring a different kind of wellbeing space to their community. What follows is a considered, step-by-step pathway, built so every new owner joins the network with a clear understanding of the business, the brand and the support behind it.

Starting the conversation

The pathway begins with a Discovery Call, an initial conversation to understand a prospective owner's goals, background and preferred location. There's no pressure and no paperwork at this stage, it's simply a chance for the O-Studio Team to understand what someone's looking for and whether O-Studio is the right fit.

From there, things move into an Information Session. A full walkthrough of the O-Studio opportunity, the business model and the franchise system. Prospective owners also receive access to the O-Studio Evaluation Guide at this point, giving them a clear picture of what ownership actually involves before they go any further.

Meeting the people behind the brand

Numbers and systems only tell part of the story, so the next step is a face-to-face meeting with the O-Studio support Team. It's a chance to put faces to the business plan and ask the questions that only come up in person.

Prospective owners are also connected with existing O-Studio owners across Australia and New Zealand and can choose to visit operating studios as part of their due diligence. Hearing directly from people already running an O-Studio, about what a typical week looks like, what surprised them, and what they'd tell someone starting out, is often the point where the decision starts to feel real.

Making it official

Once someone decides to move forward, the pathway becomes more formal, though it's still built to protect the prospective owner at every stage.

  1. Franchise deposit. A $20,000 deposit secures access to the Franchise Agreement and Disclosure Documents. This deposit is fully refundable right up until the Franchise Agreement is signed, giving owners room to complete their due diligence with confidence.
  2. Territory selection. Owners choose their O-Studio territory and pay the balance of the franchise fee. In practice, this step is often completed alongside the deposit.
  3. Administrative paperwork. All required documentation and onboarding paperwork is completed.
  4. Panel meeting. A final approval meeting with the O-Studio Team confirms everyone is aligned and ready to move forward.
  5. Welcome to O-Studio. Once approved and the Franchise Agreement is signed, the new owner officially becomes part of the O-Studio network.

It's worth noting what doesn't happen until this point is leasing and site search activities only begin once a territory has been selected, the full franchise fee has been paid, and the Franchise Agreement has been signed. It's a deliberate sequence, designed so owners commit to the right location with the full support of the O-Studio property and leasing Team already behind them.

What it's like once you're in

Becoming an O-Studio owner isn't the finish line, it's the start of a much bigger project from finding the site, fitting it out and opening the doors. But by the time a new owner reaches that stage, they're not doing it alone. The O-Studio Team spans property and development, leasing, national projects and brand and marketing, all built to support owners through everything from site selection to launch day.

That support structure reflects the values O-Studio operates by staying curious and continually improving. Communicating openly and building real relationships with owners, teams and customers, bringing energy to every interaction. Those values shape how the Team works with every owner, from that first Discovery Call through to opening and beyond.
